Compétition 2018 North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge

Last week, a group of students from University of Guelph, including: Jeroen Slits, Michael Reigned, Andrew Vanderspek and Matthew Wells – Dairy Challenge Team under the guidance of Dr. Trevor DeVries, travelled to Visalia, California to participate in the 2018 North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge competition.

The Dairy Challenge is an intercollegiate competition that involved different universities from US & Canada  with the main objective is to assess overall farm performances, including: housing, nutrition, and management, in addition to collect and assess all the data. They would then have to deliver a presentation based on the challenges in order to present opportunities to the panel.The farm assigned this time for the competition was a 2300 milking cow Jersey farm.

Jefo along with other industry sponsors made a generous financial contribution to make this trip more affordable for them. This year the team performed really well achieving 2nd PLACE!!

Overall, this was a very enriching learning experience for our students. On behalf of them, I would like to thank you for your financial support of their travel (and the shirts!) for this competition.
