On June 18th, the Jefo Foundation organized a fundraising cocktail to provide education support to the next generation in the agri-food industry. This year, ticket sales totalled 51,500 $ and Jefo Nutrition matched that amount to reach 103,000 $.

The funds will be allocated to the Jefo Education program, which aims to provide financial support for the next generation at all levels of education, and the Jefo Innovation program, which will stimulate and support research and agri-food development.

«Jefo is a knowledge-based company and agriculture is a science. As such, it must be effective and efficient. To increase the knowledge of the next generation, we support the educational development of professionals, technicians and young producers. This culture of sharing is essential,» said Nicolas Jobin, director of the Jefo Foundation.

«In agriculture, we have to adapt, because change is a certainty. We must anticipate and understand the psychology of future generations. Technology is improving very fast, so we need to provide young people with the resources they need. Furthermore, the Jefo Foundation aims to improve the perception of agricultural professions and open the horizons of international trade to the next generation,” says Jean Fontaine, President of the Jefo Group.

In addition, Jefo announced a 10-year partnership with the University of Laval for the campaign Nourrir le monde, nourrir la santé, which aims to renovate teaching and research laboratories, acquire new laboratory equipment, renew computing and technological equipment, as well as refurnish laboratories, teaching rooms and common living areas of the Food Science Department. The estimate project cost is 80 M$ and the government will invest 67 M$. The remaining 13 M$ will be funded by private companies such as Jefo, which has confirmed its commitment to invest 250,000 $ to sponsor one of the faculty’s largest auditoriums with capacity for 150 people. Jean Fontaine was also named Honorary President of the campaign.

«Jefo’s commitment to the next generation is extraordinary. The Food Science Department facility was built in 1962 and hasn’t been renovated since. Now it’s our turn to adapt ourselves to people’s needs, to offer them the latest technologies to train professionals who will be ready to work in agriculture,» said Jean-Claude Dufour, Dean of the Food Science Department of the University of Laval.

Founded in 2015 by two passionate agronomists, Nicolas Jobin and Jean fountain, the Jefo Foundation is a non-profit organization. Since its inception, the Foundation has for mission to invest in the next generation of agriculture professionals by supporting academic education and innovation.
